Monarch Tasks Lawmaker On Quality Representation

The Chairman of Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers and Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja has called on the member representing Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency, Hon. Awaji-Inombek Dagomie Abiante to always provide quality representation to people of the constituency. Jaja, who gave the charge during a courtesy visit to him by the lawmaker and his entourage in Port Harcourt said it was important for the politician not to forget that he came from a constituency where people are looking up to him for meaningful projects. He said the people of Opobo/Nkoro in particular were in dire need of electricity, as a contract awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) several years ago for the electrification of the area was not executed, stressing that electrification of the area would open up places for commerce and also pave way for the establishment of cottage industries as well as encourage small scale businesses. “I can tell you that the issue of electricity for Andoni and Opobo/Nkoro has been a thorny one. We have great need for electricity. It is not something that we can quantify. It is important you don’t forget that you have a constituency and people are looking up to you to ensure you come back with something good like electricity”, he said. The monarch, who expressed delight that Hon. Abiante had taken steps to connect the constituency to the national grid, charged the contractor handling the electricity project to adopt best practices in carrying out the job and to also adhere strictly to the local content law by employing the services of indigenous people in execution of the project. While commenting on the security of the communities that would benefit from the project, the traditional ruler stressed the need for the establishment of fire service stations in Andoni, Opobo and Nkoro communities. Earlier, Hon. Abiante had said that he was in the monarch’s office to intimate him of his intention to connect the constituency to the national grid, adding that a survey to that effect had been conducted while a design to ensure that the job commences had been produced. The lawmaker disclosed that contract for the electricity project would be handled and supervised by the Rural Electrification Agency, stressing that the project was dear to the people of the area, as they had been contributing immensely to the national economy. Also speaking, a member representing Opobo/Nkoro Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Adonye Kelly Diri said without power supply, there can be no meaningful development in any community, and commended Hon. Abiante for his genuine efforts to connect the area to the national grid.
