Ondo State government is set to turn bus stops, pedestrian bridge, and the free shuttle buses across the state to a revenue generating points through which individuals, organisations, and religious bodies will use them for brand advertisement. Briefing Journalists about this development, the Special Adviser, (SA) to the state governor on Transportation, Barrister Tobi Ogunleye explained that government took the decision in order to turn waste to wealth as these bus stops have not been serving the purpose for which they were erected by past administration. He explained further that these bus stops and pedestrian bridge have been abandoned and not make use of as destitutes and miscreants turned them to places of abode, hence the need to turn them to advertisement platforms. Ogunleye listed the target groups to include politicians, irrespective of political affiliations, commercial institutions and business moguls, religious bodies and government’s ministries, agencies, and departments. About the free shuttle buses, which the SA noted that government is spending huge amount of money to maintain, only decent advertisements will be allowed to place on them so as not to damage the morality of the children. “Our free shuttle buses are now available for commercial branding but with caveat, there is a warning. These free shuttle buses are meant to be moral, we will not allow them to be used to advertise something that will corrupt the morality of our tomorrow, anything that is capable of bringing immorality is not allowed. I don’t think we are going to allow politics on the buses because it is going to be counterproductive”, he noted. He called on the interested groups to contact the Ministry of transportation, SIGNAGE, or Olabola Services Limited to register for advertisement placement on any of the available platforms. Ogunleye stressed that turning the bus stops to platform of advertisements will restore its lost beauty and help generate funds, adding that government cannot be using the little federal allocation to the State to maintain project that is not serving its expected purpose. Speaking on the neglected pedestrian bridge, the Special Adviser explained that using the railings for advertisement will force pedestrians to use the bridges, warning that destroying the advertisement boards in order to cross will make defaulters face penalty. He added that using the bridge and railings for advertisement is a passive way of making people to make use of the pedestrian bridge, noting that the development is also a way of providing employment. The SA also disclosed that commission agents for those who bring subscribers has been put in place, affirming that whoever bring clients will receive commission. He used the medium to disclose that the state government is making an effort to plant about eight big and tall Afromedia electronic advertisement platform in MKO Abiola democracy park for VIPs.
