The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, and the senator representing the Lagos East District at the Senate, Gbenga Ashafa, have urged Nigerians to imbibe spirit of love and tolerance as practised by Jesus Christ during his lifetime.
The advice was contained in separate statements by Obasa and Ashafa on Sunday to mark the 2018 Easter celebration.
Obasa said if Lagosians and Nigerians in general could imbibe and practise love and tolerance as preached by Christ, the country would move forward.
According to him, Nigerians should show love to one another, do away with actions that can breach the public peace and learn to tolerate one another.
Obasa said, “Jesus Christ is a symbol of peace, love and tolerance; we should strive to emulate him by being our brother’s keeper at all times.”
He urged Nigerians to continue to support the All Progressives Congress at all levels of government, assuring them that the government would always put in place policies and programmes that would enhance welfare in the country.
“We must all remain vigilant and security conscious at all times. It becomes imperative for us to report any suspicious character or event to security agencies nearest to us,” the Speaker added.
Also, congratulating Lagosians on this year’s Easter, Ashafa said the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ must remind them of the need to reflect on the true essence of the season.
“Easter represents renewal of life and new beginnings. Easter also signifies a season of sacrifice, love and joy.
“I therefore encourage us to share and spread love. It is also a good time to extend our hands of fellowship and benevolence to the less privileged. It is my prayer that we all benefit from the blessings that come with the season,” Ashafa said.
